Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Public and Products Liability Insurance helps protect you and your business if someone is injured or their property is damaged because of your business activities or products. For example, if a customer slips on a wet floor in your shop or if a product you sell causes damage, this insurance can help cover the costs you’re legally required to pay, including legal expenses.
This is the most common type of insurance for businesses. Claims for injury or property damage can be expensive and could put your business at risk. Sometimes, contracts require you to have this insurance.
The cost depends on things like the level of cover you choose, your business type, expected turnover and number of staff. The best way to find out is to get a quote.
Public and Products Liability Insurance covers you if someone is injured or their property is damaged because of your business activities or products. Professional Indemnity Insurance covers you if your professional advice or services cause a client to suffer a loss.
Every business is different, but you might also need: Property Insurance, Business Interruption Insurance, Cyber Insurance, Management Liability Insurance, Professional Indemnity Insurance, and Workers Compensation Insurance. For tailored advice, speak with a qualified insurance broker at niba.com.au.
Coverage Details
This policy covers your legal liability to pay compensation if your business activities or products cause injury, property damage, or advertising injury to others. It also covers legal defense costs (if approved in writing) and includes some extra benefits. Always check the policy documents for full details of what is and what isn’t covered, including terms, limits, conditions and exclusions.
There are some things this policy doesn’t cover, including: damage to property you own or control, injuries to your employees, liability under certain contracts, cyber incidents, professional advice for a fee, pollution (except limited cases), product recalls, certain diseases, war, terrorism, and incidents involving the US or Canada unless endorsed. Check the policy documents for the full list of exclusions.
No, this insurance generally doesn’t cover liability from professional advice or services you provide for a fee. Exceptions: first aid given on your premises and advice about using or storing your products. If you provide other advice or services, you may need Professional Indemnity Insurance.
No, subcontractors are not covered as insured parties under this policy. If a claim arises from work a subcontractor did, you may still be covered for your own liability, but the subcontractor themselves is not covered.
It depends on your business, how much you interact with the public, and any contract or regulatory requirements. Citrus Insurance offers limits of $5m, $10m, and $20m.
No, Workers Compensation Insurance is separate and required by law if you employ staff.
An excess is the amount you pay towards a claim. Your cover starts once your liability to pay compensation exceeds the excess, up to the selected indemnity limit.
